TONER 2025

Hello - So normally this whole blog idea doesn’t go very far. We get excited that people might want to go back to the days of Tumblr or blogspot. Alec Soth is trying to move everyone back to the tumblr world. Which personally I think would be great. It’s interesting, the ideas of how we engage with our audience.

For me I think that TONER will have a mixture of ways to spread news about workshops and shows. Primarily through pamphlets and zines, but also video. I think mail art and conversations through post are also really important and I hope that I can keep up this idea of the sharing of pamphlets going. Maybe it should be called pamphlet pals? How would you feel to pay £2 per month and receive a pamphlet with news, stories, photos, maybe even a badge! Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Well lets see where that idea goes. So, what is Toner. Toner is a project that has been building for over 15 years. Since I was 18 I have been putting on exhibitions of my own and friends works, wether this has been in my house, in a friends shop, in a empty shop, under a bridge, in the hall way of my flat. Any space that allows me to put photos on the wall, i’l be there.

So after co running 3 different gallery spaces since 2010, Create Studio, Doomed Gallery and Photobook Cafe, I finally have a place of my own. TONER. It has windows! Thats a big deal seeing as for the last 10 years I have been in basements. TONER will be a space that not just exhibits photography, but a space to create, build community, talk, find out new things, pass on and share ideas. TONER is going to be much more than a Gallery. Its going to be… well lets wait and see.

This is the start of my blog. Lets see if I can make it daily. Thanks - Matt
